Terps Announce 2005 Homecoming Date

Feb. 17, 2005

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland has announced the date for Homecoming 2005 and its opponent is a familiar one -- ACC and regional rival Virginia. The game will take place October 1st with a game time to be determined in mid- to late September.

Surprisingly, it has been over 30 years since Maryland has hosted Virginia for homecoming. The two schools last met as part of the University's homecoming celebration on November 10, 1973, a 33-0 Terrapin victory.

Virginia was also Maryland's homecoming opponent in 1928, 1929, 1934, 1940, 1944 and 1959 with the all-time record in those games (plus the '73 contest) being 4-2-1 in the Terrapins' favor.

The game will also break a tie in the current series between Maryland's Ralph Friedgen and UVa's Al Groh as the two schools have split the four games since the two coaches took over their respective alma maters prior to the 2001 season. Each team has won its two home games in that time.

In addition to its homecoming announcement, the University has also determined that the school's annual Family Weekend will take place October 14-16 with one of its centerpieces being the men's and women's basketball teams' Midnight Madness. For updates on Family Weekend, click here.
