COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A record number of 252 University of Maryland student-athletes appeared on the 2004-05 Atlantic Coast Conference Honor Roll, as released by the conference on Monday.

The number of honorees was up 24 percent from the 203 Terrapins honored in 2004. The previous high was 206 in 2001. Maryland has had at least 200 student-athletes reach the ACC Honor Roll in four of the last five years. As importantly, Maryland placed second in the standings for ACC public institutions.

The Honor Roll is comprised of those student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year.

Duke led the conference in total selections, placing 376 student-athletes on the list. North Carolina was second with 294, while Maryland was third with 252. Virginia tallied 232 student-athletes, followed by Clemson (204), NC State (183), Florida State (168), Virginia Tech (156), Wake Forest (130), Miami (126) and Georgia Tech (115).

Maryland had two student-athletes who were honored for the fifth time, including volleyball player Kathy Shahrokh, who earned the league's prestigious Weaver-James-Corrigan Award for academic and community service, and men's lacrosse player Ian Healy, who was a Phi Beta Kappa honoree.

There were 16 Terrapins who were honored for at least the fourth time by the conference.
