Beth Gillming led the University of Maryland with 10 kills, while tournament MVP Stephanie Smith finished with eight kills and four blocks as the Terrapins swept American 30-25, 30-17, 30-20, to capture the team title last Saturday at the Pittsburgh Invitational volleyball tournament.
The victory completed a three-match sweep of their opponents, as the Terrapins have opened the 2005 season with back-to-back tournament sweeps and are now 6-0.
Rachel Wagener, who had nine kills and five blocks against the Eagles, and Gillming joined Smith on the All-Tournament team.
Maggie Schmelzle also had nine kills for Maryland, and dished out 12 assists.
Maryland will play in its third and final tournament of the regular season this weekend at the Fordham Invitational. The Terps will face host Fordham, Central Connecticut and St. Peter's on Friday and Saturday.
