COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Gary Williams and the 2006-07 Maryland Terrapins met the media on Thursday (October 12), as part of the 2006 Media Day. The Terps entertained media from Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis one day prior to the start of the season.
Coach Williams addressed over 60 members of the media in Heritage Hall to start the day's events. Following a 45-minute press conference, players and coaches spoke with print and electronic media on the floor at Comcast Center.
Thursday's media day marked the debut for Maryland's five newcomers, Jerome Burney, Eric Hayes, Landon Milbourne, Bambale Osby, and Greivis Vasquez. In addition to speaking with media, the Terps posed for pictures and joined a live radio broadcast of the event.
The media day festivities also signal the start of season. Coach Williams, as well as the players, are excited about the team's prospects for the upcoming season.
"This is always a great time of year leading up to the first practice," said Williams. "We have an interesting team. We have seniors with a great deal of experience, and we have new people with a great deal of enthusiasm. What we'll try to do over the next three weeks is get those things together and make this a very good basketball team."
The Terps return to the floor Friday night when they take part in Maryland Madness. Doors open to the public at 6:30. The men's team is set to be introduced to the public shortly after 10:00 p.m.
