POSITION VACANCY

 

POSITION TITLE:               Assistant Director (Academic Counselor - Football)

 

DEPARTMENT:                   Intercollegiate Athletics

 

CATEGORY:                         Full-time, Exempt

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Assistant Director (Academic Counselor) for the Academic Support and Career Development Unit is responsible for assisting the Associate Director with the development and implementation of academic support and career development programs and services for football student athletes. This person will be assigned a caseload of football student athletes to monitor academic progress and athletic eligibility and will also advise these students in matters of course selection, major degree program selection, and track progress towards graduation.  This individual will also be responsible for monitoring assigned study table sessions; he/she will assist in coordinating tutorial assignments; and will work with the Writing Coordinator during study table hours.  This person will assist the CHAMPS Life Skills coordinator with programming activities for the football student-athletes. Active participation in weekend recruiting activities, both for official and unofficial visits and the Faculty Guest Coach Program is also required.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred, preferably in Counseling, Student Personnel, Education or related field and at least 1-2 years of experience in post-secondary educational institutions, preferably in athletic academic services working with football student-athletes.  Must have a working knowledge of NCAA academic rules and procedures.  Strong oral and written communication skills are needed.  Must be computer literate.  Must be available and willing to work evenings and weekends. 

 

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience.
