Heyer Named to ESPN.com All-Bowl Team

Jan. 12, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland senior offensive tackle Stephon Heyer was named to ESPN.com's All-Bowl Team today, a list which compiled the best individual performances by players participating in postseason games.

Heyer, who anchored the Terps' offensive line throughout the season culminating in the team's 24-7 victory over Purdue in the Champs Sports Bowl, played a major role in the game by limiting All-Big Ten defensive end Anthony Spencer to no tackles until late in the third quarter when the games was well in hand.

Spencer had seven tackles in the game, but did not have a tackle for loss, nor a sack, after entering the game ranked second nationally in TFLs (2.0 pg).

Heyer and running back Tashard Choice of Georgia Tech were the Atlantic Coast Conference representatives on the ESPN.com offensive team.

The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Heyer returned from knee surgery in 2005 to help lead the Terps to their fourth bowl appearance in the last six seasons. He was an honorable mention All-ACC player this year, starting all 13 games.

Heyer will play in the Cornerstone Bancard Hula Bowl on Sunday (8:30 p.m. ET/ESPN). He will be joined by teammates Conrad Bolston and David Holloway.
