Four Terps Named To U.S. National Team Roster For Match Against Switzerland

    YVERDON-LES-BAINS, Switzerland - Four former Maryland men's soccer players have been placed on the United States National Team roster for its match against Switzerland on October 17. Dan Califf, Maurice Edu, Chris Seitz, and Taylor Twellman were all named to the roster by head coach Bob Bradley.

    The match will be broadcast live by Fox Soccer Channel on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from St. Jakob Park in Basel, Switzerland.

    Califf, who played at Maryland in 1998 and 1999, is a starting defender and serves as captain of Aalborg BK in the Danish league. He has accumulated 16 caps in his international career and has scored a goal.

    Edu, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, has made an immediate impact for Toronto FC. The midfielder has started 24 matches for the expansion team and has four goals and one assist. His four scores are second on the team. Edu has played 2,090 minutes this season which is the third most on the team.

    Seitz was the No. 4 overall pick in the SuperDraft, selected by Real Salt Lake, and has started three games in goal behind veteran Nick Rimando. He has made six saves in those matches and forced a draw against the New York Red Bulls on May 5.

    Twellman, who starred in College Park with Califf in 1998 and 1999, has racked up 15 goals and three assists with New England, which is 14-8-7 and has clinched a berth in the playoffs. He is tied for third in the league in scoring with his 15 goals, five behind Luciano Emilio of DC United for the Budweiser Golden Boot. Twellman was the Golden Boot winner in 2005 and was named the MLS Honda MVP that season.

    Twellman has earned 28 caps, the third most on the roster, and has six international goals.

    This will be the United States' penultimate match in 2007 as it will face South Africa on November 17.
