Yow Listed Among Most Powerful People in College Sports

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland director of athletics Deborah A. Yow was among those selected as the 10 Most Powerful People in College Sports in a recent article from the Chronicle of Higher Education.

Yow was listed as "The Builder" in the article, which mentioned that she "inherited a multimillion-dollar operating debt in 1994 and has since transformed Maryland into a powerhouse by expanding marketing and fund raising, upgrading facilities and making shrewd personnel decisions that have helped her teams win 15 national championships."

Included in the article is a quote from Sandy Barbour, the director of athletics at the University of California: "As the female I-A athletics director with the most seniority, she is looked to by many for her input, opinion and expertise."

The Chronicle surveyed several dozen experts, including athletic directors, presidents, conference officials and members of the NCAA staff.
