Junior Chris Gold finished in a tie for 20th individually and the University of Maryland moved up one spot to eighth place in the team standings in Monday's final round of the Coca-Cola Duke Classic men's golf tournament played at the Duke Golf Club.
Gold shot a 74 on the final day to finish at 1-over-par 217 for the 54-hole event. Sophomore Brendan Tracy and freshman Donnie Shin each shot 73s on Monday to lead the Terrapin comeback. Tracy moved up 11 spots to tie for 38th with a 220 total, while Shin's 73 gave him a 221 total and a tie for 47th. Freshman Tom Hanna III finished at 223 and tied for 60th.
As a team, Maryland shot 295 on the final day and moved from a tie for ninth into eighth place. The Terrapins finished at 874 for the tournament, which drew four teams ranked in the top 50 nationally.
Duke and Tennessee-Chattanooga tied for the team title with 22-under totals of 842. The Mocs had a 280 to post the best round of the day and make up a two-shot deficit on the host Blue Devils. Notre Dame was in third at 857.
Individually, Jonathan Hodge of Tennessee-Chattanooga shot a 67 to earn the victory, finishing at 12-under-par 204. Eric Onesi of Old Dominion was three strokes back, with Adam Long of Duke in third at 208.
Maryland plays on Oct. 12 through 14 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges in Jonesborough, Tenn.
