The Maryland gymnastics team (4-8) defeated George Washington at home on Thursday in the Comcast Center Pavilion. The Terps earned their season-high score of a 194.500 while the Colonials earned a 191.500. Maryland notched season-high event totals on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercies. Indvidually, the Terrapins swept first place on all events.
No. 41 Maryland started on vault with freshman Candice King turning in the highest individual score of the season, a 9.900, to win the vault. Freshman Brandi George received the team's second highest score, 9.750. The Terps' event total was a 48.700.
On the bars, the team set total of 48.800 and took the top three places. Freshman Allison Dama notched a 9.825 for the team's top score followed by a season-high from King, 9.775. George finished third with a 9.750.
The Terrapins submitted a 48.375 event total on the balance beam. George won the event, scoring a 9.800. Ferg notched a 9.750 for second. George Washington's Christa Devine placed third (9.700).
The Terps finished on floor with an event total of 48.625. George tumbled to the first place with a 9.850. Maryland's Michele Brenner tied for second place (9.775) with George Washington's Jess Guilbert.
George won the all-around with a season-high, 39.150.
The team will return to competition on Saturday, February 17th as they travel to New Hampshire to face the Wildcats in a dual-meet at 7:00 p.m.
