Tallahassee, Fla. -
The Maryland Terrapins have put their early season inconsistency behind them, and head into a difficult weekend series at Florida State riding an 11 game winning streak.
With powerful hitting and improved pitching, the Terps have been pounding their opponents. Maryland recorded five grand slams in its weekend series at Virginia, and outscored the Cavaliers 34-5 in three games.
Terrapin pitcher Stacey Jennings has thrown two no-hitters during the
team's winning streak, and along with teammate Meredith Nelles, ranks among the top 10 in the ACC in ERA.
The Terps set a new team record for stolen bases in their doubleheader versus Georgetown on Wednesday with 48 so far this season. The old record was 46, set in 2003.
Amber Jackson tied Lindsey Ubrun's single season home run record with her 11th homer of the season in the seventh inning of the second game with the Hoyas. She will look to set a new mark with a good weekend against Florida State.
As good as the Terrapins have been, they know Florida State will be a greater challenge than anything they've faced over the past few weeks. The Seminoles split a doubleheader with Central Florida on Wednesday to improve to 24-15 on the season and 17-7 at home.
Florida State will be hungry for an ACC win, after dropping series to North Carolina State and Virginia Tech. They are 2-4 in conference play.
Maryland finished 7-13 a year ago in ACC play, including a 3-9 road conference record, but got off to a great start in the conference with the sweep of Virginia. Florida State owns a huge edge in the all-time series, with a 6-31 record against the Terps. Maryland has played better against the Noles as of late however, earning three wins in the last two seasons.
The trip to Tallahassee will mark the Terps' third foray into the state of Florida this season.
Maryland opened the season at the FAU Dunkin Donuts Classic in Boca Raton, and played in
the USF-Louisville Slugger Tournament in late February. Maryland will return to Tallahassee
for the ACC tournament at the end of the season.
Maryland has not had any problems on the road so far this season. The Terps are 7-0
in true road contests this season. Maryland last captured the ACC regular season crown in 1999
with a 6-2 record.
