COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former Maryland men's soccer player Eddie Gauss was recently inducted into the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame in New Jersey. Gauss played in College Park for four years from 1979-82. He was a second-team All-ACC selection in his senior season in 1982.

Gauss is a native of Hamilton, N.J. and grew up playing for the German American Kickers for 16 years. For three seasons, he played on the Steinart varsity squad and led them to a perfect 24-0 season in 1977 and a No. 1 ranking in the country. He led Mercer County in scoring in 1978 with 28 goals and was named the Player of the Year.

At the University of Maryland, Gauss earned letters in all four seasons and served as captain in his junior and senior seasons. Along with his All-ACC honor, he was named to the All-South region team.

Gauss went on to play professionally with the Pennsylvania Stoners of the ASL where he led the team to the championship game twice. He also had stints with the Rochester Flash of the ASL and with the Brooklyn Kosmos before returning to Mercer County to play in the amateur ranks.

Gauss is currently the head coach of the boys' high school soccer team at the Pennington School in Pennington, N.J.
