Water Polo Freshmen Named All-Americans

July 25, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Two future Maryland water polo student-athletes have earned All-American honors from the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association. Maggie Eicks (Humble, Texas) was named a first team All-American, while Colleen Shaw (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) garnered second team All-American honors.

"We are very proud that Maggie and Colleen's accomplishments have been recognized by the All-American voters," said head coach Carl Salyer. "It is a great honor to be an All-American and we look forward to their addition to the Terrapin water polo squad for the next for years. We expect great things from them and the other members of the class of 2011."

Eicks earned first team all-region honors in 2005 and was named first team All-State her junior year. As a center for Humble High she finished her water polo career earning all-state and all-region MVP honors after winning the Texas State High School Water Polo Tournament. She earned varsity letters in both swimming and water polo all four years of high school while serving as an active member of the National Honor Society. She joins her sister Liz, who is a current member of the Terrapins' water polo team.

Shaw will join the Terps from Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois. She is the Illinois High School Association's third all-time leading scorer in water polo, and was selected to represent the Midwest Zone 2007 Youth Girls Team at its national tournament in Utah.

Salyer's Terrapins finished the 2007 season with a 16-18 record. The Terps captured the CWPA Southern Division Championship on April 21 with 9-8 victory over Princeton. Maryland advanced to the CWPA Eastern Division Championship and finished sixth.
