MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - Sophomore Jessica Hollandsworth shot a 1-over-par 73 Monday afternoon to put the University of Maryland women's golf team in second place after the first round of the Spider Invitational at Independence Golf Club.

The Terrapins are only one stroke behind Longwood heading into Tuesday's final round after combining to shoot a 15-over-par 303. Hollandsworth trails Longwood's Alexa Boucher by one stroke in the race for the individual medal.

Junior Kerri Connolly shot 75, freshman Christine Shimel shot 77 and freshman Hayley Brown shot 78 to account for Maryland's final tally. Sophomore Lauren Varnas isn't far off the pace of her teammates, finishing the day with a 79.

Play resumes at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start. Each team in the field will play 18 holes on the day.
