WASHINGTON, D.C. -
Maryland continues a tough stretch of games on Sunday evening with a matchup against 3rd-ranked Villanova in the 15h annual BB&T Classic at Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C... The Terps and Wildcats have not met since 1986 despite being two of the East coast's most recognizable programs... Villanova is the first team the Terps have met in 2009-10 ranked at the time of the matchup, though Cincinnati has cracked both polls as of last Monday and Wisconsin was receiving votes in each poll before the Badgers' victory over Duke this week.
The doubleheader, with the first game matching George Washington and Navy at 5 p.m., will be telecast live on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
The game can also be heard across the Terrapin Sports Radio Network, including Baltimore flagships WJZ-FM (105.7), WJZ-AM (1300). In Washington, D.C., the game will be heard on WTGB-FM (94.7).

Maryland has been particularly strong at the defensive end thus far... The Terps are allowing opponents just 59.1 points per game and a .361 shooting mark from the field... Prior to games of this week, Maryland ranked 3rd in the nation in turnover margin and is currently at +6.9.
Scouting the Wildcats
A perfect 7-0, Villanova comes to Verizon Center ranked 3rd in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls... The Wildcats have five players averaging in double figures, led by guard Scottie Reynolds, who is averaging 13.9 points per game... 6-foot-8 forward Antonio Pena is averaging a double-double in the early stretch of the season, posting a 13.4 ppg and a 10.6 rpg mark after seven games... Corey Fisher (11.9 ppg), Taylor King (11.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 14 3FGs) and Corey Stokes (10.3 ppg, 12 3FGs) round out the starting lineup.
BB&T Classic
Maryland is 14-9 all-time in the BB&T Classic, having won last year's game 76-53 over George Wsahington... The Terps are 11-8 since the event moved to downtown Washington in the building now known as Verizon Center...
When the tournament was a four-team, two-day affair, the Terps won the event in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2001... Teams have played a single game in the BB&T since 2004.
Terps Among Decade's Best
Lindy's College Basketball preseason magazine hit the newsstands and has touted the University of Maryland men's basketball program in a number of ways.
The Terrapins are listed ninth among the decade's top programs by the magazine. The listing notes Maryland's national championship in 2002, as well as its 223-111 record during the decade.
Senior point guard Greivis Vasquez is listed on the Terps' All-Decade Team along with Lonny Baxter, Steve Blake, Nik Caner-Medley and Juan Dixon.
The Terps share "The Decade's Top 10 Programs" with Kansas, North Carolina, Michigan State, Duke, UConn, Florida, UCLA, Texas and Arizona.
Maryland vs. Ranked Teams Under Gary Williams
Since Gary Williams took over in 1989-90, Maryland has 70 wins over Top 25 teams, including three last season (the 80-62 victory over then-5th-ranked Michigan State on Thanksgiving Night, an 88-85 overtime victory over #3 North Carolina and a 75-64 win over #8 Wake Forest in the ACC Quarterfinals).
