POSITION TITLE: Associate Director of Athletics for Academic Support & Career Development
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Associate Director of Athletics for Academic Support & Career Development Unit (ASCDU) reports to the Senior Associate AD. There is regular interaction with the Director of Athletics and the Faculty Athletic Representative. This individual is responsible for directing the ASCSU for approximately 700 student-athletes on 27 varsity teams and for providing quality academic support services to all student-athletes, enabling them to maintain athletic eligibility, to make reasonable progress towards graduation, and to graduate from the University within a 4-5 year time frame. Coordinator for a number of initiatives requires interaction with others in the Academic community, including the Academic Dean who chairs the ASCDU oversight committee, the Asst. VP and the Director of Admissions. Under this individual's leadership, the staff of this unit will manage successfully the following tasks: (1) coordinate the academic and developmental plans for all student-athletes; (2) conduct meetings with coaches and teams to review academic progress and ensure understanding of NCAA rules related to academic progress; (3) develop, coordinate, and provide exceptional tutorial assistance to student-athletes; (4) identify, hire, and train tutorial staff; (5) administer a learning disability testing program; (6) plan and implement a comprehensive career program; (7) review admissions requests in a timely manner with the Admissions Director; and (8) participate actively and routinely in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes during their official and unofficial visits to campus.
In addition, this individual will be responsible for managing a budget in excess of $1 million, overseeing new state-of-the-art academic facilities in the new Gossett Academic Support & Career Development Unit and the Comcast Center, and supervising approximately 11 full-time staff. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree required. At least 5 years of successful, full-time professional experience in higher education, preferably in athletic academic services of a Division I or in a Division I Conference setting. Must have a comprehensive working knowledge of NCAA academic rules and procedures. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Proven administrative/supervisory experience is preferred.
