COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Three All-Conference all stars have all signed on to play for the Maryland Terrapins softball team in 2012, head coach Laura Watten announced Tuesday.

Shannon Bustillos (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon High School), Liana Newton (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson High School) and Kaitlyn Schmeiser (Dunkirk, Md./Northern High School) have all signed on to play for the Terrapins next year.

Bustillos, a catcher, will come east after three years as a varsity starter and scholar athlete at Canyon High School. In her first three years in high school, she averaged .364 at the plate and was named her team's Most Valuable Offensive Player in 2009.

Also strong behind the plate, Bustillos was named Canyon's Most Valuable Defensive Player as a junior in 2010. Bustillos is a three time All-Century League honoree and was the honored catcher on the Orange County Register's All-Freshman and All-Sophomore teams. She also plays for the club team California Cruisers.

Newton is an honored centerfielder from Cinnaminson, N.J. Named to the Philadelphia Inquirer's First Team in 2010, she started her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons at Cinnaminson High School.

Newton is a 2010 South Jersey Coaches Association First Team selection. She was also named First Team in 2008, 2009 and 2010 by the BCSL Conference and First Team by the Burlington County Times in each of those years. She has played for Jersey Inferno Gold since 2008.

Schmeiser has twice been named an All-Met pitcher by The Washington Post. In 2009, as a sophomore, she as honored as an Honorable Mention selection and in 2010, she was named to the Second Team. She has been honored as an All-County selection in each of her three years and All-SMAC in 2009 and 2010.

Schmeiser is one of only three athletes in MPSSAA history to record shutouts in five postseason games over her career. She averaged .440 at the plate in her career and her career ERA is 0.52 and she already has notched over 500 strikeouts. She is one of just seven pitchers in the MPSSAA to have led her team to three state championships. She plays for Severna Park Green Hornets.

The Terrapins are coming off of a 34-25 2010 season. Maryland earned its first NCAA Regionals appearance in over 10 years. The Terps hosted NCAA Regionals for the first time in school history, as Oklahoma, Syracuse and Fordham came to College Park.
