Two eagles have been registered on the Championship Tees course at the Sedgefield Country Club. One belongs to Maryland sophomore Jessica Hollandsworth. The Floyd, Va., native matched her previous day's score of 74 to move up to tie 11th. Maryland currently sits in sixth place after two days of competition.
Maryland is just five strokes behind No. 23 Florida State with a two-day total of 604 (299-305). The Terrapins teed off in the second group today with the Seminoles and N.C. State. The Wolfpack are just one stroke behind the Terps with a 605. Wake Forest remains in the lead with a 571 while Duke and Virginia are tied at second. UNC sits in fourth as Miami and Boston College round out the field in eighth and ninth, respectively.
Hollandsworth started off strong with matching par on the first hole and then birdying the second. She then stayed even with the course and made a huge move on hole five for the eagle. It was a par five hole in which Hollandsworth finished in three strokes.
Freshman Christine Shimel and senior Carly Hunt are tied for 16th with an eight-over-par 150. Shimel added two more birdies on the day for a total of five.
Freshman Hayley Brown improved her game by taking four strokes off her score for a six-over-par 77 today. She is tied for 30th. The fifth player in the lineup for Maryland is junior Kerri Connolly who is tied for 36th after two rounds of play. Connolly turned in a 79 on the first day and an 82 in the second round.
Wake Forest won the championship last season and looks to reclaim the crown.
