The Maryland track and field programs had strong showings on the last day of competition at the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships at Clemson University, scoring points in numerous events and setting multiple top marks.
The most impressive performance of the day came from a trio of athletes in the women's hammer throw, in which all three Terrapins produced personal-bests. Kristen Batts took second overall and qualified for the ECAC-meet with a mark of 176-09, fifth-best in school history. Jessie Echard scored points for Maryland as well, finishing fifth with a mark of 165-08, eighth-best in school history. Finally, Moriah Young set her personal-best mark of 158-08 to finish ninth in the competition.
Kiani Profit ran the 400 twice on Saturday. The star junior, fresh off a second-place finish in the heptathlon, finished fourth in the finals of the individual 400 with a mark of 54.72, the seventh-best mark in Maryland history. Profit later anchored the 4x400-meter relay squad to a fifth-place finish. DeAnna Brown, Melony McKay and Arielle Statham joined Profit in the event and finished in 3:41.38 seconds.
On the men's side, Greg Kelsey set an IC4A-qualifying mark in the 5,000, finishing fifth overall with a time of 14:30.08. Combined with his fourth-place finish in the steeplechase on Friday, the senior was Maryland's highest scoring male athlete at the conference championships.
The men's and women's 4x100-meter relay teams both scored points for the Terrapins. Dareem David, Floyd Hawkes, John Davenport and Jeremy Samuels teamed up to set a season-best time of 41.75 seconds, finishing sixth overall. Tolulope Olugbemi, Heidi Paul, Alexis Booker and DeAnna Brown finished eighth with a time of 47.17 seconds.
The men's 4x400-meter relay earned sixth place on Saturday. Shawn David, John Davenport, Tommy Friscia and Jeremy Samuels combined for a time of 3:14.74.
Greg Jubb competed in the finals of the 1,500-meter run on Saturday and finished twelfth with a time of 4:05.01.
Clemson's women and Florida State's men led all team scoring with 177 and 138.50 points respectively.
Maryland Notes:
In the 4x400-meter relay, DeAnna Brown, Melony McKay, Arielle Statham and Kiani Profit placed fifth at 3:41.38. Ashley Carbray finished seventeenth in the triple jump with Maryland's top mark of the season, 37-11.25. Kyle Gaffney finished thirtieth in the 5,000 with a time of 15:30.34. In the women's 5,000, Angeli Sivaraman and Halsey Sinclair finished in twentieth and twenty-fifth place with respective marks of 18:19.66 and 19:05.30.
