PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
The University of Maryland track and field program sent ten relay squads, three throwers and one long jumper to the Penn Relays this weekend, achieving moderate success across the board.
Four Maryland student-athletes put together the fastest distance medley relay of the season this weekend. Julie Fricke (3:38.84), DeAnna Brown (54.78), Ashley Cromartie (2:13.90) and Christina Nelson (4:54.03) combined for a time of 11:41.55, earning the quartet eighth place.
On the men's side, Legonn Haskins, Jeremy Samuels, Floyd Hawkes, and John Davenport ran the second-fastest 4x200-meter relay in Maryland history. With a time of 1:27.40, the four men took 26th place.
Dareem David, Floyd Hawkes, Jeremy Samuels and Tommy Friscia made Maryland history in the sprint medley, recording the fourth-fastest time in school history at 3:24.63. The runners earned eleventh place for their efforts.
On the field, junior Kristen Batts took fifth place in the discus throw with a mark of 156-0. Moriah Young threw the shot put 44-06, earning the freshman eleventh place.
The track season continues next week, when the University of Maryland plays host for multiple schools at the Maryland Twilight on May 6.

Women's:
4x200- 1:38.56, 23rd (Tolulope Olugbemi, Arielle Statham, Alexis Booker, Melony McKay); 4x200(ECAC)- 1:38.54, 7th (Tolulope Olugbemi, Melony McKay, Alexis Booker, Arielle Statham); 4x800- 9:03.94, 9th (Kelley Pry, Taylor Bumpas, Erin Matyus, Christina Nelson); Sprint Medley- 4:00.65, 16th (DeAnna Brown, Arielle Statham, Melony McKay, Kelley Pry); Long Jump: 18-01.50, 19th (Ashley Hendrix); Hammer Throw: 159-03, 14th (Jessie Echard).
