Tournament Results - Day 2
STANFORD, Calif. -
The Terrapins jumped up three spots on the NCAA West Regional leader board Friday evening. They finished the second day of competition in 18th after notching a team score of 306, a 10 stroke improvement from yesterday's round. Senior Carly Hunt carded a team best two-over-par 74.
Arizona moved in to sole possession of first place with a 585 (291-294). UCLA, Alabama, Virginia and California make up the rest of the top five, respectively.
Freshman Christine Shimel and sophomore Jessica Hollandsworth also made great strides in their game today. Shimel recorded a 77, two strokes better than her first round, while Hollandsworth improved by five strokes for a 76. Hollandsworth started the day on the back nine getting an early lead with a birdie on the second hole. She finished even on the final nine.
Freshman Hayley Brown, who led the team yesterday with a 78, carded a 79 and added two more birdies for a total of four. Junior Kerri Connolly finished with an 85.
Teams will tee off on holes No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 8:00 a.m. The last tee time is scheduled for 2:09 p.m. on Saturday.
Maryland last played in the NCAA regional tournament in 2007 as a team. Last season Hollandsworth made the cut as an individual finishing tied for 11th at the East Regional in Gainesville, Fla. The then-freshman carded a seven-over-par 217 (76-71-70) on the Mark Bostick Golf Course.

Three regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies will apply.
A total of 369 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional.
The championships finals will be held May 18-21 at the Country Club of Landfall and will be hosted by the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.
