POSITION TITLE: Intern – Academic Enrichment Programs Academic Support & Career Development Unit (ASCDU)

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: 2010-2011 Academic School Year May include parts of summer of 2010 and 2011

DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics

RESPONSIBILITIES: This individual will assist the Program Coordinator in managing and facilitating the Academic Enrichment Programs (AEP) that are provided to student-athletes through the Academic Support and Career Development Unit (ASCDU) of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Duties will include: designing and facilitating individualized study plans for at-risk student-athletes, recruiting and supervising potential AEP tutors and mentors, documenting student progress and managing reports submitted by tutors and mentors, working one-on-one with a set caseload of students to foster academic confidence and develop effective study skills, collaborating with the Director of Intensive Learning Programs and other ASCDU staff members to ensure quality and cohesiveness in the implementation of all aspects of AEP, and other duties as assigned by staff. Evening and weekend hours required. Travel with various teams if needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will be familiar with college student development programming, implementation, and evaluation, preferably with the student-athlete population. Other desired qualifications include: experience in a mentorship role with college freshman and/or student-athletes, knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding student-athlete academic progress, and proficiency with Excel and TutorTrac. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic with effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of people, and will respect and maintain strict confidentiality guidelines. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's Degree and those who can articulate their desire to pursue a career in learning services and student support. Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours is required.

COMPENSATION: Hourly, bi-weekly pay, commensurate with experience.
