Two Terrapin freshmen led the Maryland men's golf team Monday at the Firestone Invitational at the par-72, 7,087-yard Firestone Country Club. Jordan Sweet and Ben Warnquist are tied for 10th after the first two rounds of the tournament, and Maryland sits in a tie for fourth with an even-par 576 (290 - 286).
Sweet opened the day with a 3-under 69 in the first round, three strokes lower than his season scoring average, and finished the round tied for first place. Warnquist carded a 5-under 67 in the second round to tie his low round of the season.
Sweet finished the second round 2-under after firing a 1-over 73 in the second round. Warnquist carded a 3-over 75 in the first round before his under-par second round. Both golfers will begin the final round Tuesday five strokes behind the leader, St. Mary's (Calif.) Mac McClung.
Sophomore Sean Bosdosh, the Terps' scoring leader through two events, opened the tournament with a 2-over 74. In the afternoon, Bosdosh bounced back and carded a 1-under 71. The Clarksburg, Md., native is tied for 25th.
Senior Joey Rice is tied for 47th. Rice finished with a 5-over 149 (72-77). Sophomore Will Wiseman shot a first-round 78, and finished with a second-round 75. Wiseman is tied for 72nd.
Wiseman will be the first Terp to tee off Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. The remainder of the team will tee off shortly thereafter.
Indiana and SMU lead the team competition and are tied for first with a 4-under 572.
