The Maryland men's golf team will travel to Akron, Ohio, for the Firestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club beginning Monday, Oct. 10. This fall marks the third straight year the Terps have competed in the event. Maryland finished sixth out of 13 teams in 2010.
The Terps competed in the VCU Shootout two weeks ago and carded a 1-over 865 to place 10th out of 15 teams.
Sophomore Sean Bosdosh leads the Terps in scoring with a 70.33 average through two events. The Clarksburg, Md., native has finished in the top 20 twice with one top-10 finish coming at the Maryland Intercollegiate where he finished sixth.
Senior Joey Rice completed the final two rounds of the VCU Shootout at 6-under to tie for 33rd and lower his scoring average to 72.67.
Freshmen Jordan Sweet and Ben Warnquist, competing in only their second collegiate event, carded a 5-over 221 and 9-over 225, respectively. The two freshmen have combined for seven rounds at or below par this fall.
Other teams competing in the Firestone Invitational include: Akron, Ball State, Davidson, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas State, Miami (Ohio), Nebraska, SMU, St. Mary's (Calif.), Toledo, South Alabama, South Carolina-Aiken and Wisconsin.
The first round of the invitational will begin Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start to be immediately followed by the second round.
Firestone Country Club is a par 72, 7,125-yard course. Live stats will be available via Golfstat.
