COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's soccer team gathered for its end of the year banquet Monday night at the UMCP Golf Course.

The 2011 squad celebrated another stellar campaign while distributing several awards. John Stertzer and Casey Townsend collected Most Valuable Offensive Player honors and the Terp trifecta of Taylor Kemp, Alex Lee and London Woodberry captured top defensive accolades.

University President Dr. Wallace D. Loh also addressed the team.

The program also honored long-time strength and conditioning coach Barry Kagan, who is moving out of the country after spending the last 17 seasons with head coach Sasho Cirovski and the men's soccer team.

A complete list of the award winners are listed below along with a compilation of the team highlights for the 2011 campaign.

2011 Team Highlights

  • 17th straight NCAA appearance
  • Terps have advanced to NCAA Third Round a nation best 10 consecutive seasons
  • Amassed eight shutouts
  • Six players tabbed to All-ACC Team; more All-ACC selections than any other program
  • Casey Townsend and John Stertzer named to All-ACC First Team
  • Townsend and Stertzer named NSCAA All-Americans
  • Established new Ludwig Field record with 7,957 fans in a win against Duke
  • Sasho Cirovski secured victory number 300 Sept. 4 against Radford
  • Townsend finished his four-year run ranked third in goals (43) and fifth in points (96) in Maryland history. His 17 goals in 2011 is also the sixth-highest mark in Terp single-season annals.
