Kerry Hickey's three-run home run led the Terrapins to a 4-1 win over Quinnipiac in extra innings Sunday afternoon. After a scoreless seven innings, the Terps broke the game open in the top of the eighth.
Sunday's game concluded a 4-1 showing for Maryland (13-9) in the Under Armour Showcase, hosted by the University of South Florida in Clearwater.
In the top of the eighth, the Terps started the inning with a runner on second base. Junior Bree Hanafin singled to move Galindo to third. Hickey came to the plate next and sent a three-run home run to left centerfield to put the Terrapins up 3-0.
Two batters later, sophomore Lexi Carroll hit a solo home run to left center.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jacqueline Ristow hit an RBI double to put the Bobcats on the board.
Hickey also started in the circle for the Terrapins, notching 11 strikeouts and just three hits. She allowed just two hits in the first seven innings.
Maryland returns home this week for a midweek doubleheader with Fordham Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. The Rams came to College Park last May for NCAA Regionals.
