COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team shut out Princeton, 6-0, Friday afternoon in its opening game of this weekend's Maryland Round Robin at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Freshman pitcher Ashley Czechner gave up one hit in her complete game shutout.

Czechner notched 13 strikeouts for the Terps (16-9). She gave up just one walk on the day. With the victory, Maryland extended its current win streak to seven.

Sophomore Sara Acosta and junior Vangie Galindo each had two hits in the game.

After the first two and a half innings stayed scoreless, Acosta began a three-run bottom of the third with a single to first base and Galindo followed that with a single to third. Junior Bree Hanafin reached third on an error to score Galindo and Acosta. Senior Kerry Hickey brought in Hanafin with an RBI base hit to right field.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Hickey reached on an error by the Wildcats and Acosta scored on the play. Next, sophomore Lexi Carroll singled up the middle to score two more runs.

Maryland will play Utah Saturday at 11:15 a.m., then Villanova at 1:30 p.m. On Sunday, the Terps take on Hampton at 12:15 p.m. and Villanova again at 2:30 p.m.

Admission for all of the weekend's games is free. Maryland will also be hosting the NCAA Women's Basketball First Rounds Sunday in the Comcast Center, so fans should be advised to plan accordingly for parking and traffic.
