The Maryland softball team (6-4) will head to the Citrus Classic this weekend, which will be played at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. The Terrapins, who won the Strike Out Cancer Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. last weekend, will play five games in three days.
Maryland will play two 2010 NCAA Tournament teams. First, it will see Illinois State (8-5) Friday at 12:30 p.m. The Terps and the Redhawks met earlier this season in the Red & Black Showcase in Athens, Ga. on Feb. 12. Maryland fell 5-0. Later Friday afternoon, the Terrapins will take on Illinois (5-5) at 3 p.m.
On Saturday, the Terps play two teams that enter the weekend undefeated. They begin the day playing another 2010 NCAA Tournament team, Notre Dame (9-0), at 10 a.m. The Terrapins will see Longwood (8-0) at 12:30 p.m.
Maryland closes out the weekend with Temple (3-2) at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
The Terrapins are currently on a three-game win streak, after going 4-1 in the Strike Out Cancer Tournament. Two of their wins went to extra innings and they beat Pitt 5-4 in the championship game.
Junior Bree Hanafin is leading the Terps at the plate with her batting average of .476. She has 10 hits in her 21 at-bats, including two home runs and a double. She and senior Marisha Branson lead the Terrapins with four RBI each.
Junior Kendra Knight is leading Maryland in the circle, with her ERA of 2.08. In her 26.0 innings pitched, she's notched 36 strikeouts and opponents are hitting just .167 against her.
