COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland has announced its 2011 fall slate, which includes seven teams that played in last season's NCAA Tournament. A total of seven conferences are represented on this year's challenging schedule.

The Terps will battle St. John's Friday, August 26 at the Germantown SoccerPlex as part of the ACC/Big East Challenge to begin the 2011 campaign before the Ludwig Field opener against West Virginia Sunday.

The homestand continues with matches against Stanford (9/2), Radford (9/4) and Boston College (9/9). The Terps then trek to their first official road contest at UMBC Sept. 13.

Maryland welcomes NC State Sept. 16 then hits the road for a pair of games at Seton Hall Sept. 20 and Virginia Tech Sept. 24.

The Terps jumpstart their second big homestand of the season when Charlotte (9/27), Creighton (9/30) and Rutgers (10/4) pay a visit to College Park before Maryland preps for an always-exciting match at ACC-rival Virginia Oct. 7.

Adelphi rolls into town for a midweek match Oct. 11 then Maryland plays host to Duke in an ACC showdown Friday, Oct. 14.

The Terps close out the regular season with a trio of conference tests - at North Carolina (Oct. 22), at Clemson (Oct. 28), and at home against Wake Forest (Nov. 3).

The ACC Men's Soccer Championship will have a different flair this season with first round and the quarterfinal matches being played at the higher seed's home venue prior the semifinals and finals are hosted in Cary, N.C.

"Once again, I am excited to announce another challenging schedule for our 2011 team," head coach Sasho Cirovski, who is entering his 19th season in College Park, said. "In addition to our always difficult ACC opponents, we have added teams representing seven different conferences, with four from the Big East. We have a young and talented squad that is humble and hungry. I believe our fans will be excited to support us as we begin the quest to return to the College Cup."

Maryland, which returns 19 letterwinners from the 2010 squad, went 19-3-1 a year ago before bowing out of the NCAA Quarterfinals. Maryland has now advanced to at least the round-of-16 in seven of the last nine seasons.

TERPS 2011 OPPONENT NOTES:

St. John's - The Red Storm was 10-6-2 a year ago. The last time the two teams met was in the national semifinals in 2008, with the Terps winning the game on a legendary free kick from Graham Zusi in overtime.

West Virginia - WVU lost to eventual national champion Akron, 3-2, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Stanford - The only previous meeting between the Cardinal and Terps led to a Stanford win in the national semifinals in 1998.

Radford - Radford was 7-9-3 a year ago, but defeated Maryland in the programs' lone meeting in 1990.

Boston College - The Eagles fell at Brown in the first round of the NCAA tournament but finished the season a solid 10-5-5.

UMBC - The alma mater of current assistant coach Brian Rowland, UMBC won the American East Tournament against New Hampshire in penalty kicks before eventually bowing out to William & Mary in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

NC State - The Terps topped the Wolfpack last season, 3-1, at home. NC State ended the season at 10-8-2. Kelly Findley, the once successful head coach at Butler, has replaced George Tarantini following his retirement this offseason.

Charlotte - Charlotte was 13-5-1 a year ago and captured the A-10 title.

Creighton - Former long-time UNC head coach Elmar Bolovich enters his first season with Creighton, which fell to SMU in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

North Carolina - Sporting new head coach Carlos Somoano this season, the Tar Heels will look to go one step further after falling to Louisville in the College Cup semifinals in 2010. The Terps and UNC split last season, with Maryland defeating Carolina in the ACC championship game.

Clemson - The Terps dropped Clemson twice last season, including a 2-1 win against the Tigers in the ACC quarterfinals.

Wake Forest - The Demon Deacons missed the tournament last season for the first time in ages, but expect a matured unit in 2011. After a 3-1 win against Wake last season, the series record is locked at 15-15-4.
