Senior Kerry Hickey of the Maryland softball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Pitcher of the Week the league announced Tuesday for the second consecutive week. She was honored with the weekly award for the seventh time in her career and third this season.
Hickey finished the week with a 3-0 mark, helping Maryland (37-14, 11-5 ACC) go 5-0 and sweep a three-game series at Virginia Tech. The Terps have clinched a winning ACC record for the first time since 1999 and have won the most league games in program history.
The Huntingtown, Md., right-hander started in three games, pitched two complete games and came in in two relief appearances. She allowed just one earned run in 21.1 innings, 12 hits, seven walks and notched 31 strikeouts.
In 5.2 innings against Delaware State last week, she allowed just two hits and did not give up a run. Hickey also notched two saves on the week - one vs. Delaware State and one vs. Virginia Tech.
Maryland will close out its regular season this weekend with a three-game series vs. North Carolina (30-19, 11-6 ACC) in College Park. The Terps and the Tar Heels will take the field Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and Sunday's Senior Day game will be at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available.
