POSITION TITLE: Marketing Assistant (2 Positions)
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics
UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is one of the more comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million in the context of a distinguished academic University. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is located on a beautiful campus located eight miles north of the nation's capital and near Columbia, Maryland, which was recently listed as the #2 "Best Place to Live" by Money Magazine. Currently, 92 of the University's academic programs are ranked in their respective Top 25 nationally.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The University of Maryland is seeking qualified applications for the position of Marketing Assistant. The position will work as a member of the ICA marketing staff, assisting the Director of Sports Marketing with developing creative marketing programs and activities which cultivate interest and support from University groups, the community, and local businesses for the University's athletic department. This individual will oversee marketing initiatives, ticket sales and game production for various Olympic Sports with a key focus on maximizing ticket revenue, increasing fan attendance and enhancing the Maryland brand.
Additionally, this individual will assist with marketing operations and group sales for Football, Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball; Manage the planning, solicitation, and fulfillment of off-premise ticket sales; Oversee charitable donation requests; Assist with the supervision of student workers; And assist with various other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Marketing.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required in sports administration, marketing, advertising or other related field. Must have at least 1 year of marketing experience, preferably in a collegiate athletics environment. Must have strong written and oral communication skills, and be able to formulate and implement marketing and promotional strategies to effectively sell athletic programs. Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
SALARY: This is an 11-month position that begins July 1, 2011, with a salary of $17,000. This position does not include benefits.
