TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -
College Soccer News recently tabbed Ludwig Field as one of the top 12 most exciting places to watch a college soccer match.
Ludwig Field landed at No. 3 on the website's list, topping the likes of Atlantic Coast Conference foe Wake Forest (8th) and defending national champion Akron (4th).
"It does not get any more exciting or intense than at Ludwig Field," the website states. "There is something truly unique about watching the Terps play there. Maybe it has to do with the success the program has enjoyed over the past decade or maybe it is the level of competitiveness in the ACC.
"Regardless, it is hard to top the electric atmosphere at Ludwig Field which is conveniently located on the campus of the University of Maryland. The stadium accommodates 7,000 and it is state of the art. A great and soccer savvy crowd is always on hand. The intensity can be intimidating to opposing teams."
Maryland opens the 2011 campaign with a match against St. John's in the ACC/BIG EAST Challenge Aug. 26 at the Germantown Soccerplex. The home opener is slated two days later against West Virginia.
