COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland men's soccer team landed at No. 4 on the NSCAA National Preseason Poll, announced Tuesday.
The Terps trail only 2010 College Cup participants Louisville, Akron and North Carolina on the list. SMU, UCLA, California, Connecticut, Michigan and Creighton round out the top 10.
Led by head coach Sasho Cirovski, who is entering his 19th season with the program, Maryland is in search of its 10th consecutive NCAA round-of-16 appearance in 2011. The Terps boasted their 16th-straight winning season when they ended the 2010 campaign at 19-3-1.
The high ranking comes regardless of the loss of several key players from the 2010 roster, including current Major League Soccer standouts Zac MacMath, Matt Kassel and Ethan White, as well as last season's leading scorer Jason Herrick, who is currently with the Harrisburg City Islanders of the USL.
Maryland will play host to Army in its first exhibition match of the season Sunday at 5 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
