The Maryland volleyball team (15-13, 6-10 ACC) extended its winning streak to three behind a match-high 14 kills from Ashleigh Crutcher in a 3-0 (32-30, 25-18, 25-17) defeat of Virginia Friday night.
Adreené Elliott added 11 kills on .474 hitting, while Mackenzie Dagostino had 22 assists to lead the Terps.
The opening set featured 37 ties and lead changes. Mary Cushman had eight kills and Sarah Harper had four digs in a return to her hometown. In a set in which neither team gained an advantage larger than two points, the Terps edged out a 32-30 victory following two Virginia errors to end the set.
The second set started very much the same. With the score tied at 10, Maryland ran off six of the next seven points to take a commanding lead. Virginia cut the lead to six, but kills from Kelsey Hrebenach and Elliott, along with a Cavalier error clinched the set for the Terps.
In the third set, Maryland jumped out to a 5-1 lead punctuated by consecutive assisted blocks from Crutcher and Elliott. The Cavaliers cut the lead to one, but consecutive kills from Crutcher and an assisted block from Elliott and Remy McBain helped the Terps seal a third-set victory 25-17.
