The Maryland men's golf team is back on the course Sunday, March 25 to compete at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,074-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club hosted by the College of Charleston.
The Terps
Maryland is coming off an 11th-place finish at the General Hackler Championship two weeks ago.
This spring, freshman Ben Warnquist leads the team in scoring. The Rockville, Md., native is averaging a 74.50 per 18 holes.
Senior Sean Brannan and sophomore Sean Bosdosh rank 25th and 26th, respectively, in the league in scoring. Brannan is averaging 73.60 per 18 this year, while Bosdosh is averaging 73.62.
General Hackler Championship
The tournament draws its name from the band Hootie & the Blowfish and each year enjoys the support of Charleston native, Darius Rucker.
Historically this tournament has boasted some of the top collegiate golf program in the country and this year will be no different. In addition to Maryland, the 2012 field includes: College of Charleston, LSU, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Auburn, NC State, Augusta State, South Carolina, Mississippi, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Wofford.
Last year LSU won the tournament as they shot 3-under and finished one stroke ahead of runner-up Augusta State. Mitchell Sutton won medalist honors in a sudden-death playoff with LSU's Andrew Loupe as both finished the tournament at 6-under. The Cougars finished 15th in the team standings.
Teams will play a practice round on Saturday March 24, followed by three rounds of 18 holes on each day starting March 25-March 27.
