Gymnastics Announce Second Summer Camp

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Due to overwhelming demand, the Maryland gymnastics coaching staff announced a second summer camp Monday scheduled for the week of Aug. 5.

Camp will run from Sunday, Aug. 5 through Thursday, Aug. 9 and will be held at the Maryland Gymnastics Training Facility in the School of Public Health and is open to gymnasts of all skill levels - beginner to level 10 and elite - for ages 7 to 18.

It is the first time Maryland will hold a second session of its annual summer camp. The first session, which is scheduled for July 29-Aug. 2, was met with considerable enthusiasm and reached peak capacity very quickly. Last summer, the camp trained a record 114 gymnasts and will surpass that mark this year.

What to Expect
The University of Maryland Gymnastics Program is proud to offer their gymnastics camp to beginner through elite competitive gymnasts ages 7 and up. This camp is designed to teach the campers the fundamentals of gymnastics and the camp's goal is to meet the needs of each individual gymnast. Daily rotations of vault, bars, beam, floor, trampoline, strength, dance and flexibility will be included. All levels of campers will work with all of our coaches!

What to Bring
For the gym:
Campers should bring any gymnastics apparel needed - leotards, grips, tape, tiger paws, etc.

For the dorms:
Campers should bring a bathing suit, sheets, blankets or sleeping bag, pillow, towels, fan, alarm clock, and all hygiene items. In addition, any personal items that will make your child feel more comfortable at camp. Please, however, leave valuable and expensive electronic items at home as they are not needed and can easily be misplaced by campers.
Camp in NOT responsible for lost personal items!

There will be a Camp Store that will be open each evening for pizza, snacks, and drinks.

Accommodations
North Campus Dorms
All overnight campers will be housed in Hagerstown Hall Dorms, located on North Campus. Roommates will be assigned at random unless requested in advance. Please make any roommate requests in the application form (both roommates must select each other to guarantee roommate request). The camp staff will provide 24-hour supervision of the dorms. All meals are provided at The Diner on North Campus, conveniently located near the dorms and gymnastics facility.

Facilities
All gymnastics sessions will be held in the Maryland Gymnastics Training Facility located in the School of Public Health Building. The air-conditioned facility is one of the largest gymnastics facilities in the country and has resi pits and spotting belts for each event.

Camp Staff
The highly skilled coaching staff will include the coaches of the University of Maryland gymnastics team, college coaches from across the country as well as private club coaches. Current team members will also be on staff both in the gym coaching and housed in the dorm as counselors.

Health & Safety
A full-time certified trainer will be on duty to administer to minor injuries and ailments. A medical release form is required and must be completed prior to camp. This form is available online in the gymnastics section of the University of Maryland athletic department's official website: www.umterps.com. K&K Insurance as secondary coverage will cover each camper. Parent/Guardian health insurance is the primary coverage in the event of an injury.
