Terps Run Into Hungry Tigers

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Terrell McIntyre scored 11 of his 21 points in a decisive 16-1 second half run to lead 10th-ranked Clemson to an 80-68 victory over seventh-ranked Maryland and a sweep of the Atlantic Coast Conference season series.

Greg Buckner led Clemson (19-4, 7-3 ACC) with 23 points. The Tigers bridged the first and second half with a 31-8 run to open a 47-32 lead.

Keith Booth led Maryland (18-5, 7-4) with 19 points.

Maryland held a 24-16 lead after Laron Profit hit a three-pointer with 4:43 left in the half. But Tony Christie converted a pair of free throws and connected on a three-pointer from the top of the key to ignite a 13-3 run to close the half. A layup by McIntyre with five seconds remaining in the half snapped a 27-27 tie.

The game was tied at 31-31 early in the second half when McIntyre ignited a 16-1 run with a four-point play. He hit a three-pointer from the right corner as he was fouled by Terrell Stokes and converted the free throw with 18:20 left to give Clemson the lead for good. McIntyre added a layup, a pair of free throws and a three-pointer in the run as Clemson opened a 47-32 lead with 16:12 left.

Maryland pulled no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Sarunas Jasikevicius had 16 points and Profit finished with 14 for the Terps.

The win pulled the Tigers within one game of first-place Wake Forest in the ACC. Clemson plays at Wake Forest Wednesday night.

Clemson defeated the Terps at Maryland, 67-63, on January 15th. The Tigers have won eight of the last nine and 11 of the last 13 contests against Maryland in Littlejohn Coliseum.
