No. 7 Duke Outlasts No. 16 Maryland

DURHAM, N.C. - Jeff Capel scored 18 points and Trajan Langdon added 12 as seventh-ranked Duke clinched a tie for the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title with an 81-69 victory over No. 16 Maryland.

Duke (23-6, 12-3 ACC) has won eight straight conference games since a 74-70 loss at Maryland on Jan. 26 and clinched at least a share of its 12th ACC regular-season championship. The Blue Devils can secure the title outright with a win at North Carolina on Sunday or if Wake Forest is beaten by Florida State on Saturday.

Keith Booth scored 22 points and Rodney Elliott added 14 for Maryland (20-8, 9-6), which has lost three of its last four games. The Terrapins have dropped 11 of their last 13 games at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The second half featured 12 lead changes until Steve Wojciechowski's three-pointer put the Blue Devils ahead for good, 55-52, with 10:20 to go. Mike Chappell, who had 10 points off the bench, made a three-pointer to cap an 11-2 run that gave Duke a 63-54 advantage with 8:39 left.

Capel, who was 7-for-12 from the field, made a driving layup to give Duke a 27-22 advantage with 4:20 left in the first half. Wojciechowski hit a pair of free throws to extend the Blue Devils' lead to 32-24 with 3:22 remaining.

Elliott scored four points as the Terps ended the first half with a 7-0 spurt to climb within 34-33 at the intermission.
