COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore Emily Fraik's second consecutive double-double was not enough Sunday afternoon as the Maryland volleyball team fell to Clemson in four sets, 19-25, 25-22, 28-26, 25-16 at Comcast Pavilion. It was the first home loss of the season for the Terps.

Fraik tallied career-highs in kills (18) and digs (16) to lead Maryland, while Julia Anderson had 25 assists and Sarah Harper totaled 26 digs.

Maryland (9-5, 1-1 ACC) jumped out to a high-flying start in the opening frame, as senior libero Sarah Harper displayed her defensive prowess with 10 digs. The Terps held Clemson (7-6, 1-1 ACC) to a .042 hitting percentage and took the first set, 25-19.

The Terrapins appeared well on their way to taking the second set, as well, before the Tigers responded to a timeout out by taking a 19-16 lead on a 6-0 run. Clemson carried its momentum through the set to square the match, 1-1.

Maryland got a spark in the third set from freshman Alex Brown, who had a career-high 11 kills (seven in the set), but Clemson's Moneshia Simmons proved too much for the hosts. Simmons – the ACC's leader in kills – notched five kills in the set and 22 on the afternoon.

“[Alex Brown] did a great job today and I thought she did a lot of great things,” head coach Tim Horsmon said. “She's got a great arm and great length, so we'll see how she does moving forward.”

Clemson and Maryland battled back-and-forth in the fourth set, before the Tigers mounted a 9-2 run to take a 21-14 advantage. The Tigers closed the match after a pair of attack errors by the Terps.

Maryland returns to action next weekend in Comcast Pavilion as it takes on Virginia at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 4.
