COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland volleyball team fell, 3-0 (23-25, 14-25, 21-25), to Michigan State Friday evening in the XFINITY Center.

Sophomore middle blocker Ashlyn MacGregor recorded six total blocks (3 solo, 3 assisted) in the Terps' effort in front of 4,173 fans.

The Terps (7-11, 0-7 Big Ten) and Spartans (11-7, 4-3) stayed close in the first set. Freshman middle blocker Hailey Murray made four kills in the set. Down by six points, Maryland rallied to cut Michigan State's lead to 23-21. The Terps recorded three straight points with the Spartans at match point, including a service ace from junior libero Amy Dion. A ball handling error gave the Spartans the first set, 25-23.

Michigan State handled the second set, limiting Maryland to just three kills. The Spartans took a 10-3 lead before Maryland called a timeout. MacGregor made three assisted blocks in the set as Michigan State won, 25-14.

After allowing the Spartans to take a 7-1 lead in the third set, the Terps began working their way back. Murray made four kills in the game while junior outside hitter Emily Fraik had five. Three kills and a Spartan attack error allowed the Terps to cut the point difference to three at 18-15. After a timeout, Michigan State limited Maryland to four points as it took the set, 25-21.

Murray made nine kills to lead the Terps while sophomore setter Carlotta Oggioni had 12 assists. Dion made 16 digs.

The Terps have a quick turnaround as they host Michigan (9-8, 4-3) Saturday at 7 p.m. in the XFINITY Center Pavilion. The Wolverines defeated Rutgers, 3-0, Friday evening.
