POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The Maryland men's golf team finished third out of 16 teams at the ODU/OBX Invitational Tuesday at the Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powells Point, N.C. Senior Ben Warnquist tied for second on the leaderboard after outstanding second and third rounds on the course.
After the first round, Warnquist was tied for 29th after going four-over par with a 75. He went two-under with a 69 in Monday's second round, then went four-under with a 67 Tuesday. He finished with his career-best score of 211, which was two-under for all 54 holes.
“We had a great fall and we're looking forward to the spring,” head coach Jason Rodenhaver said. “Freshman David Kocher had a great fall. We're especially happy for Ben Warnquist. He struggled last year and he's worked hard. Hopefully this week is a sign of things to come for him.”
Freshman David Kocher also had a strong third and final round Tuesday, as he shot an even 71 to wind up tied for ninth with a score of 215 (74-70-71).
Senior Connor Tendall shot a 75 in Tuesday's final round for a combined score of 219 (73-71-75). Sophomore Victor Fox earned a combined score of 226 (73-77-76), while junior Tom Harris finished with a score of 229 (74-80-75).
The Terrapins competed against Old Dominion, Drexel, Delaware, Hartford, Marshall, James Madison, George Mason, Longwood, South Dakota, Campbell, Nebraska-Omaha, Savannah State, Saint Francis (Pa.) and UMES.
This is the Terrapins' final tournament of the fall season. They will compete in Big Ten Match Play Feb. 15-16 in Palm Coast, Fla.
