Trimble Named Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland freshman guard Melo Trimble was named co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Trimble shared this week's honor with Northwestern freshman guard Bryant McIntosh.

Trimble, who averaged 13.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists, led Maryland to a pair of home wins over NC Central and USC Upstate.

The Terps, ranked No. 17 in this week's Associated Press Top 25, represents Maryland's highest ranking in the polls since March 5, 2007 when the Terps were also ranked No. 17 in the nation.

Trimble posted his first career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win against USC Upstate and also added 12 points while connecting on all eight of his free throw attempts in the victory over NC Central.  A freshman from Upper Marlboro, Md., Trimble leads the nation in free throws made with 78 and has connected on 78-of-87 (89.2) free throw attempts this season.

Trimble also earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week and co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Dec. 1

Maryland (10-1) will next travel to Oklahoma State (8-1) on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. EST.
