• Jake Layman had 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to help then-No. 15 Maryland extend its winning streak to five games with a 72-56 victory over Oakland on Saturday at XFINITY Center. It was the junior forward's second consecutive double-double. Dez Wells scored 10 points, including six in the final 5:30, in his return from a broken right wrist.
• Maryland is ranked 12th in the latest Associated Press poll, its highest ranking since it was 12th on Nov. 29, 2004.
• Maryland seniors Evan Smotrycz (Michigan) and Jon Graham (Penn State) both experienced two seasons in the Big Ten Conference prior to transferring to Maryland. Smotrycz scored a season-high 14 points in B1G play and added three steals against the Spartans as a freshman on March 5, 2011.
• Richaud Pack hails from Detroit and attended Birmingham Seaholm High School. He will have 40 family members and friends in attendance.
• Maryland was 6-1 while Wooden Award nominee Dez Wells recovered from a broken right wrist he sustained against No. 13 Iowa State at the CBE Classic. The Terps outscored opponents by nearly nine points a game, led by double-figure scoring averages by Jake Layman (17.3), Melo Trimble (16.6) and Richaud Pack (11.3).
• The Maryland football team will play Stanford in the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, Calif., at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN. The Terps went 7-5 in their inaugural season in the Big Ten.
• The Terps were 34-27 all-time in ACC openers, including an 88-80 victory at Boston College last season. Dez Wells scored a career-high 33 points in the win.Head coach Mark Turgeon is 10-6 all-time in conference openers.

• Freshman Melo Trimble had a career-high five three-pointers and was five-for-six from behind the arc en route to a game-high 17 points for Maryland (12-1). It was Terps' final non-conference game before their Big Ten opener Tuesday against Michigan State.

• Jake Layman tied a season-high with 21 points and added a career-best 11 rebounds as No. 17 Maryland beat Oklahoma State 73-64 Dec. 21 to improve to 11-1.
• Layman was three-for-five from three-point range and the Terrapins were 10-for-25 overall from long range. It is the first double-double this season for Layman, who has scored in double-figures in all 12 games in the 2014-15 campaign. Freshmen Melo Trimble and Jared Nickens had 16 and 11 points, respectively, while Richaud Pack had a season-high 10 rebounds.
• Oklahoma State has lost just five times in 198 non-conference home games dating to 1987.
Feelin' it at the free throw line
• Maryland has been solid all season at the charity stripe and rank third in the nation in free throws made (243).
• Freshman Melo Trimble is third in the nation in free throws made (85) and seventh in attempts (94).
• Trimble - who is currently first in the Big Ten in free throw percentage (.904) - went 13-for-14 from the charity stripe in wins vs. Arizona State (11/24) and Monmouth (11/28).

• With seven-consecutive victories to start the season, the Maryland men's basketball team landed back in the top 25 for the first time since the 2009-10 season on Dec. 1.

• In what would be Greivis Vasquez's final game in a Terrapin uniform, the senior marched the team back from a 16-point second half deficit to take the lead with six seconds remaining. Korie Lucious' three-pointer at the buzzer was the difference and sent the Spartans to the Sweet 16 despite 26 points from Vasquez and a double-double from Jordan Williams.

• With a top-10 recruiting class and his most experienced team in four years as head coach at Maryland, Mark Turgeon has the Terrapins poised for its inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference.
• Maryland, which finished 17-15 last season, boasts a balanced team featuring a mix of veteran leadership and key newcomers. Among the leaders is 2013 ACC-All Conferece and USBWA All-District III selection Dez Wells, who changed his number to 44 to honor a deceased former teammate for his senior season. Wells is joined by seniors Evan Smotrycz and Jon Graham and sophomore Damonte Dodd in the frontcourt, in addition to junior Jake Layman on the wing.
• Turgeon also hauled in the ninth-best recruiting class in the nation according to Scout.com, showcasing McDonald's All-American point guard Melo Trimble (Upper Marlboro, Md.), shooting guard Dion Wiley (Oxon Hill, Md.), guard Jared Nickens (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) and forward Michal Cekovsky (Slovakia, Europe).
