NEW YORK – Amina Smith won her first women's high jump of the season, Cici Onyekwere won her third women's shot put and Josh Haghighi continued his rapid improvement with a win in the men's weight throw on Saturday as Maryland competed in the Lions Invitational track and field meet.

In addition to the victories, Terrapin freshmen put on strong performances in the meet, held at the New York Armory Track.

Smith went 5 feet, 7.75 inches to win the women's high jump. It was her first victory after two seconds and a third this season, all to her Terrapin teammates.

Onyekwere had a mark of 46-0.75 to win the women's shot put, adding to her titles this season at the Penn State Relays and the Terrapin Invitational.

Haghighi posted a best of 64-5 in the men's 35-pound weight throw to earn first place. His marks this season have gone from 62-11.50 at Penn State, to 63-2.75 at the Terrapin Invitational. He's still second all-time in the event at Maryland and is closing on the school record of 65-7, set by Alan Baginski in 1983.

Also for the Terrapins on Saturday, freshman Micha Powell ran 55.88 to finish second in the women's 400. It moved her into eighth all-time indoors at Maryland.

Freshman Lisa Meneau was second in the women's 60-meter hurdles, running 8.73 in the final to earn ninth all-time at Maryland. Sophomore Noella Anyangwe ran 8.78 to qualify fourth in the prelims and post the 10th-fastest mark ever at Maryland.

Junior Myah Hicks ran 2:08.88 to post an indoor PR in the women's 800, moving up to third on the Maryland list. Senior Maryam Fikri ran second in the women's 1,000 at 2:54.46.

Terrence Maliff improved his indoor PR at 500 meters with a ninth-place finish of 1:05.59. His mark moved him from ninth to seventh for the Terps.

Maryland competes next at the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet this Friday and Saturday.
