CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Sophomore Victor Fox and senior Ben Warnquist had strong opening rounds to lead the Maryland men's golf team in the first round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate Friday at the Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Fox went one-under par with a score of 71 to land in the top 20 on the leaderboard. Warnquist finished the day with an even 72 to sit in the top 30. In his first collegiate tournament, freshman David Kocher went one-over par with a score of 73.
Junior Tom Harris went three-over par with a 75 and senior Connor Tendall shot an 80.
The Terrapins will tee-off in round two Saturday at 8 a.m., then will play the final 18 holes Sunday. Live scoring will be available at http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=6166.
The Terrapins will be competing against Boston College, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, Furman, Gardner Webb, George Mason, GRU-Augusta, Kennesaw State, Mercer, North Carolina, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, UT-Chattanooga and Virginia Commonwealth.
The UNC Finley Golf Course is a par 72 that covers 7,242 yards.
