CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Maryland men's golf team shaved nine strokes off its team score in the second round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate Saturday. The Terps are currently three-under par on the weekend and sit tied for fifth out of 18 teams.
As a team, the Terrapins shot a combined score of 291 in Friday's first round. On Saturday, the they improved to a 282 overall.
Freshman David Kocher and sophomore Victor Fox both went under par to lead the way. Kocher shot a 67 Saturday, which was six strokes lower than his first round score and five-under par. Fox shot a 69 in the second round, which was two strokes better than his 71 Friday. Both are currently tied for ninth on the leaderboard with combined scores of 140, which are four-under on the weekend.
Senior Ben Warnquist and junior Tom Harris both went one-over with scores of 73 on the day. Harris improved his score by a stroke. Senior Connor Tendall went four-over with a 76 Saturday, which was four strokes better than his day one score.
The Terrapins will tee-off in the final round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate Sunday at 8:50 a.m. Live scoring will be available at http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=6166.
The Terrapins are competing against Boston College, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, Furman, Gardner Webb, George Mason, GRU-Augusta, Kennesaw State, Mercer, North Carolina, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, UT-Chattanooga and Virginia Commonwealth.
The UNC Finley Golf Course is a par 72 that covers 7,242 yards.
