NEW YORK – Alex Shinsky was selected by the Chicago Fire in the fourth round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft Tuesday.
Shinsky – who was taken 68th overall - joins the Fire after serving as a senior captain for the Terps while making 56 career appearances at Maryland. The midfielder/forward scored three goals and tallied seven assists during his four-year stint in College Park and was named First Team All-Big Ten as a senior. Shinsky helped Maryland to three consecutive conference regular season and tournament championships and pair of trips to the College Cup in 2012 and 2013.
A native of York, Pa. and a U.S. youth international, Shinsky scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Malawi in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria.
Shinsky became the 38th player head coach Sasho Cirovski has had chosen in the MLS Draft.
"We couldn't be more proud of Alex,” Cirovski said. “It took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get to this point for Alex and we know he will represent Terp Nation with pride as he begins this new chapter in Chicago.”
