• Jake Layman had 13 points and Jared Nickens finished with 12 for No. 13 Maryland, which fell to No. 23 Indiana, 89-70, Thursday night at Assembly Hall. Maryland trailed 38-35 at halftime and was led by Layman's 11 first-half points. Indiana opened the second half on a 14-3 run the first 4:08 of the stanza to take a commanding 12-point lead.
• Melo Trimble has been tabbed to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Midseason Oscar Robertson Trophy and Integris Wayman Tisdale Award Midseason Watch List, announced Jan. 23. The Wayman Tisdale award - presented to the national freshman of the year - and the Oscar Robertson Trophy - given to the national player of the year – are presented at the Devon Energy College Basketball Awards on April 14.
• Maryland is 2-0 following a loss this season and Jake Layman is averaging 17.5 points the game following a loss. Four Terps scored in double-figures, led by Layman's 14 points, in a 69-60 win at Purdue on Jan. 10 after falling to Illinois on the road Jan. 7. The Terps rebounded with a 20 point-win over Winthrop after falling to Virginia on Dec. 3. Layman scored a then season-high 21 points.
• Maryland men's head basketball coach Mark Turgeon and his staff will wear Under Armour tennis shoes in the game versus Northwestern as part of the American Cancer Society's Suits and Sneakers initiative. The Terps and Northwestern will be wearing gray shoes to help raise awareness in the fight against brain cancer, a disease that former Maryland manager Zach Lederer valiantly battled until his death in March of 2014 at the age at the age of 20.
