COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Maryland men's soccer team dropped a Big Ten Conference match at No. 23 Ohio State, 1-0, Saturday night.
The Terps (7-5-4, 2-2-3 B1G) were unable to put up a goal despite a 13-9 shot advantage on the night. Yaw Amankwa provided Ohio State (10-5-2, 4-2-1 B1G) with its lone goal in the 43rd minute.
Maryland outshot the Buckeyes, 7-5, in the first half but trailed at the break after a late tally by Ohio State in the stanza.
Amankwa broke away after a long serve to the forward with 2:33 to play and his finish from the 18 curled around a diving Cody Niedermeier to the far post for the score.
The Terps did not surrender a goal the rest of the way despite being forced to play a man down the last 15 minutes of the match after freshman forward Sebastian Elney his second yellow card of the night.
Maryland will close out the regular season on Wednesday night when they welcome Rutgers on Senior Night at Ludwig Field.
