Likely Named B1G Special Teams Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland football's William Likely was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Likely posted 220 kickoff return yards against Iowa on Saturday, marking the second most kickoff return yards in a game for a player in Maryland history. Likely owns the record with 228 kickoff return yards against Michigan State in 2014. The junior averaged 36.7 yards per return against the Hawkeyes.

The junior's day was highlighted by a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, marking his second career 100-yard kickoff return touchdown. There have been 35 100-yard kickoff returns in Big 10 conference history and Likely has the last two. He also returned a kickoff 100 yards against Stanford on Dec. 30, 2014.

Likely also garnered Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week on September 8.

The other Big Ten weekly awards went to Purdue quarterback David Blough (offensive), Purdue cornerback Anthony Brown (defensive) and Michigan safety Jabrill Peppers (freshman).

Likely and the Terps return to action on Saturday against Wisconsin at 3:30. The game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
